Mouthwatering Butter Naan | Soft, Fluffy & Easy Indian Flatbread Recipe

Naan is a popular Indian flatbread known for its soft, chewy texture and buttery flavor. Perfectly paired with curries and gravies, this versatile bread can be easily made at home using simple ingredients like flour, yogurt, and baking soda.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)
  • 2 tablespoons plain yogurt (curd)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for the dough)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for brushing the naan)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (chini)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (namak)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup warm water (adjust as needed)
  • 1 teaspoon oil (for greasing the bowl)

Optional Ingredients:

  • Fresh cilantro (for garnish)
  • black sesame seeds (for garnish)

 Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:

– In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.

– Add the yogurt and melted butter, then mix well.

– Gradually add warm milk and water, kneading until you get a soft, smooth dough. If the dough is sticky, you can add a little more flour.

– Lightly oil the dough and cover the bowl with a damp cloth. Let it rest for about 1 to 2 hours, allowing it to rise.

  1. Divide the Dough:

– After the dough has risen, divide it into small equal-sized balls (about the size of a golf ball).

  1. Roll the Naan:

– Preheat a skillet or tawa over medium heat.

– On a floured surface, roll out each dough ball into an oval or teardrop shape, about 1/4 inch thick.

– add sesame seeds and cilantro on the rolled dough, pressing them lightly.

  1. Cook the Naan:

– Place the rolled naan on the hot skillet.

– When bubbles start to form on the surface, flip the naan over and cook the other side. It should puff up slightly.

– Once both sides are cooked and have golden-brown spots, remove the naan from the skillet.

  1. Butter the Naan:

– While the naan is still hot, brush it generously with butter on both sides.

– Repeat the process for the remaining dough balls.

  1. Serve:

– Serve the butter naan hot with your favorite curry, dal, or any dish of your choice.

Enjoy your homemade butter naan!
