French fries are a universally loved snack with a crispy outside and soft inside. Perfectly golden and seasoned, they make a delicious treat on their own or paired with your favorite dip!
Ingredients:
- 4 large potatoes (Russet potatoes are ideal)
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)
- 2 tablespoons corn flour
- Salt, to taste
- Cold water
- Ice cubes (optional for extra crispiness)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Potatoes:
- Peel the potatoes (optional) and cut them into thin, even strips, about 1/4-inch thick.
- Soak the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water for at least 30 minutes or up to 2 hours to remove excess starch, which helps achieve extra crispiness. For an added crunch, consider adding ice cubes to the water.
- Drain and Dry:
- Drain the soaked potatoes and pat them dry thoroughly with a clean kitchen towel to remove as much moisture as possible.
- Toss the dried potatoes with corn flour for added crispiness.
- First Frying (Blanching):
- Heat oil in a deep pan or fryer to around 325°F (165°C).
- Fry the potatoes in batches for 3-4 minutes, just until they become tender. They should not turn golden yet.
- Remove and drain on a paper towel. Let them cool for 10-15 minutes.
- Second Frying (Crisping):
- Increase the oil temperature to 375°F (190°C).
- Fry the pre-cooked potatoes again in batches for 2-3 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
- Remove and place on a paper towel to drain any excess oil.
- Seasoning:
- While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt. You can also add spices like garlic powder, paprika, or any seasoning you prefer.
- Serve:
- Serve the hot, crispy French fries with ketchup, mayonnaise, or your favorite dip.
Tips:
- Corn Flour for Crispiness: Adding corn flour helps to make the fries extra crispy.
- Double Frying: This method gives fries a crispy exterior and fluffy interior.
