Easy Crispy Paneer Pakoras Recipe | Perfect for Tea-Time

There’s something incredibly comforting about biting into a hot, crispy pakora on a rainy day. Paneer Pakoras are a popular Indian snack that’s crispy on the outside, soft and cheesy on the inside, making them an irresistible treat. Paired with a cup of chai, these pakoras are perfect for an evening snack or as an appetizer for your next gathering. In this blog post, I’ll share my go-to recipe for making perfectly crispy paneer pakoras at home.

Ingredients:

  • 250g paneer, cut into cubes
  • 1 cup gram flour (besan)
  • 1/4 cup rice flour (for extra crispiness)
  • 1 tsp red chili powder (laal mirch)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder (jeera)
  • 1/2 tsp ajwain (carom seeds)
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp chaat masala
  • 1 pinch baking soda
  • Salt to taste
  • Some chopped coriander leaves
  • Water as needed
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Batter:
In a mixing bowl, combine gram flour, rice flour, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, ajwain, garam masala, chaat masala, chopped coriander leaves, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add water to the dry ingredients, whisking continuously to form a smooth, thick batter. The batter should be thick enough to coat the paneer cubes without dripping.
  2. Coat the Paneer:
Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, dip each paneer cube into the batter, ensuring it’s fully coated. Carefully drop the coated paneer cubes into the hot oil, frying in batches. Don’t overcrowd the pan.
  3. Frying the Pakoras:
Fry the paneer pakoras until they turn golden brown and crispy on all sides. Use a slotted spoon to remove the pakoras from the oil, draining them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  4. Serve:
Sprinkle the fried paneer pakoras with a little extra chaat masala for added flavor. Serve hot with green chutney, tamarind chutney, or ketchup on the side.
