Easy Chicken Manchurian Recipe – A Spicy Indo-Chinese Delight

Chicken Manchurian is a popular Indo-Chinese dish featuring crispy fried chicken tossed in a tangy, spicy, and flavorful Manchurian sauce. It pairs perfectly with fried rice or Hakka noodles, making it a favorite for Chinese food lovers.

Ingredients

For the Fried Chicken:

  • 500g boneless chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (maida)
  • 1/4 cup cornflour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Oil, for deep frying

For the Manchurian Sauce:

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup capsicum (bell pepper), diced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp red chili sauce
  • 1 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 1 tsp black pepper powder
  • 1 tbsp cornflour mixed with 1/4 cup water (cornflour slurry)
  • 1/2 cup water (adjust for consistency)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Spring onions, chopped and sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

1. Marinate and Fry the Chicken

  1. In a bowl, mix all-purpose flour, cornflour, egg, ginger-garlic paste, black pepper powder, red chili powder, and salt. Add the chicken pieces and coat them well.
  2. Heat oil in a deep pan and fry the chicken pieces in batches until golden brown and crispy. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

2. Prepare the Manchurian Sauce

  1. Heat oil in a wok or pan over medium heat. Add garlic, ginger. Sauté for a few seconds until fragrant.
  2. Add chopped onion and capsicum, stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until slightly soft.
  3. Add soy sauce, red chili sauce, tomato ketchup, vinegar, black pepper powder, and salt. Mix well.
  4. Pour in water and bring the sauce to a simmer.

3. Thicken the Sauce and Add Chicken

  1. Stir in the cornflour slurry and cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  2. Add the fried chicken pieces and toss well to coat them in the sauce.

4. Garnish and Serve

  1. Garnish with chopped spring onions, sesame seeds and serve hot.
  2. Enjoy Chicken Manchurian with fried rice or Hakka noodles.

  • Double-fry the chicken for extra crispiness.
  • Adjust the spice level by increasing or decreasing the green chilies and red chili sauce.
