Home Made Momos Chutney Recipe – Spicy and Tangy Dipping Sauce

Momos chutney is a fiery and flavorful dipping sauce that pairs perfectly with steamed or fried momos. Made with red chilies, tomatoes, and garlic, this chutney has a tangy and spicy kick that elevates the taste of the momos. Here’s an easy recipe to make this delicious chutney at home.

Ingredients:

  • 3-4 large ripe tomatoes
  • 5-6 dry red chilies (adjust to your spice preference)
  • 6-7 garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar or lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar (optional)
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon oil

Instructions:

  1. Boil the Tomatoes and Red Chilies:
    • Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the tomatoes and dry red chilies.
    • Boil for about 7-8 minutes until the tomatoes are soft and the red chilies are rehydrated.
  2. Peel the Tomatoes:
    • Once the tomatoes are boiled, remove them from the water and let them cool slightly.
    • Peel off the tomato skins and set aside the peeled tomatoes. Discard the skins.
  3. Blend the Chutney:
    • In a blender, add the peeled tomatoes, boiled red chilies, garlic cloves, and vinegar or lemon juice.
    • Blend until you get a smooth paste.
  4. Cook the Chutney:
    • Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan over medium heat.
    • Pour the blended chutney into the pan and cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
    • Add salt to taste and a pinch of sugar to balance the flavors (optional).
    • Cook until the chutney thickens slightly and the oil starts to separate.
  5. Cool and Serve:
    • Let the chutney cool to room temperature before serving.
    • Serve the spicy momos chutney with your favorite steamed or fried momos.

Tips for Perfect Momos Chutney:

  • Adjust the Spice Level: If you prefer a milder chutney, reduce the number of red chilies or deseed them before boiling.
  • Tangy Flavor: Add vinegar or lemon juice to enhance the tanginess and freshness of the chutney.
  • Consistency: Cook the chutney until it thickens slightly for a perfect dipping sauce consistency.

Presentation Tips:

  • Serve the momos chutney in a small bowl alongside a platter of momos.
  • Garnish with a few chopped coriander leaves for a fresh and vibrant touch.
